What is a Volunteer?
Volunteers give their time to a worthwhile cause, without financial (or other) compensation. They are always free to end their participation, without any procedure or compensation. However, they must respect the WorldSkills Lyon 2024 Volunteers Charter.

Is there a minimum age to become a Volunteer?
WorldSkills Lyon 2024 is giving younger people the opportunity to participate, and is opening up its Volunteers Programme to minors aged 12 and over as of 1 January 1 2024. Intergenerational cooperation is a great opportunity, therefore there is no age limit.
What are the requirements for other Volunteers?
For residents of France and the Schengen area: possession of a valid identity card or residence permit.
For residents outside the Schengen area: possession of a valid passport.
Where do the missions take place and what are the mission hours?
WorldSkills Lyon 2024 takes place at Eurexpo Lyon (Chassieu), but also at several sites in the Lyon Metropolitan Area (hotels, Opening and Closing Ceremonies, various events, etc.). All locations are accessible by public transportation.
Most missions take place over a range of hours, from 8am to 8pm. Some missions, depending on their specificities, may start before 8am or extend past 8pm.
Are missions adapted to people with disabilities?
Yes, some missions are adapted to suit different types of disability. These will be clarified during the application interview or directly with the Volunteers Programme team.
What are the requirements for minors?
Minors under the age of 16 must be registered by a legal representative, who will accompany them during the post-application interview, as well as during their Volunteer assignments.
Minors over the age of 16 may register alone. During the Competition, the minor will be accompanied by an adult designated by the organizer.
In both cases, missions will be adapted in terms of duties and schedules.
Will there be preparations before the start of the missions?
Yes, a programme of various training courses, accessible by videoconference or face-to-face, has been set up and will be available as soon as the application has been validated.
Do Volunteers have insurance during their missions?
The organizer has taken out civil liability insurance for all Volunteers, covering material and personal damage.
Are transportation costs covered for Volunteers?
Only the cost of transportation to and from the Volunteer’s mission location during the Competition is covered, using the Lyon public transportation network (TCL).
Is accommodation provided?
Accommodation is not provided. A best practice exchange group will be set up via social networks.
Is there a programme of events dedicated to Volunteers?
Yes, in the run-up to the event, with gatherings by ‘mission family’ and an official launch at the end of June 2024. During and after the event, numerous activities are planned outside mission times, to extend the Volunteers experience.
Are meals provided?
Yes, Volunteers will be provided with one meal for each full day of Volunteering, in accordance with the organization set up for him/her (location, time, etc.).
Is there a special Volunteers kit?
Yes, Volunteers will be provided with official clothing.
