The WorldSkills Champions Trust teams up in Lyon

The 2023 to 2024 WorldSkills Champions Trust representatives have gathered for a week in Lyon ahead of the WorldSkills Lyon 2024 Competition. The newly formed team has been taking part in a series of activities, discovering the city, and reflecting on their new role within the WorldSkills movement.

The diverse team of Champions from various countries and regions, arrived in Lyon on Sunday, 7 May, to come together in person for the first time since their election in March 2023. Accompanied by Shawna Bourke, Director of Marketing and Communications at WorldSkills International, and Cynthia Umurungi, Marketing and Communications Manager at WSI, the new WorldSkills Champions Trust representatives have been participating in a week of team building and engaging activities. This week is also the opportunity for them to connect and get to know more about each other’s cultures and skills. Among the group, three representatives from the Champions Trust 2019 to 2022 have returned to maintain momentum and welcome the newly elected representatives.

The voices of young people

Along with discovering the city of Lyon with the WorldSkills Lyon 2024 Marketing and Communications team on Monday, the group of Champions has had the opportunity to take part in activities such as public speaking, video skills, or media training. The Champions Trust representatives have a key role, representing and embodying the voices of young people at WorldSkills.

Last term’s representatives were an essential part of the WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition. The youth ambassadors spoke at conferences and events, and created engaging content to showcase the importance of skills and share their journey. Jacqueline Tanzer, former Champions Trust representative and Champion in Graphic Design Technology at WorldSkills São Paulo 2015, was chosen to pass the WorldSkills flag on behalf of the 15 Host countries and regions of the WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition. This event, which began the countdown to WorldSkills Lyon 2024, highlights the importance and relevance of Champions Trust representatives within the WorldSkills movement.
