WorldSkills Volunteers tell their story: Brunel Muba

Becoming a WorldSkills Volunteer is one of the most impactful ways to experience a Competition from the inside. Volunteers are at the heart of the Competition and are essential to the success of it. In return, they get to live an experience that can enrich them for a lifetime. The WorldSkills movement is privileged to have dedicated Volunteers on board at each Competition, contributing to the creation of extraordinary moments. Get to know Brunel Muba, a longtime WorldSkills Volunteer.

Brunel Muba works as an agent for an international airline. Growing up, he frequently traveled with his ambassador parents, fostering a deep love for travel. Today, he continues to nurture his passion for exploration, actively participating in various movements, associations, and events worldwide. In 2010, Brunel was introduced to WorldSkills by a friend who was a Competitor and a member of the WorldSkills Belgium national team. He then signed up as a Volunteer for EuroSkills Lisbon 2010. Won over by the movement, he has since volunteered at numerous WorldSkills competitions, including the Competitions in Abu Dhabi in 2017, Kazan in 2019, and the Special Edition in 2022 in the United States.

Win-win

For Brunel, “WorldSkills changes your vision of the world, your vision of skills, and it can change someone’s life: that of an employee, a Volunteer, a Competitor… WorldSkills is a family.” In the course of his Volunteer assignments at various WorldSkills Competitions, Brunel has drawn nothing but positives from his encounters with the many Competitors: “Sometimes their story can be a source of encouragement for others. Sometimes our story can inspire them. Being a Volunteer is all about giving and receiving. In fact, it’s a win-win situation.”

Initially shy and reserved, Brunel feels that his experiences as a WorldSkills Volunteer have given him greater self-confidence. Rich in experience, he will be back next year for WorldSkills Lyon 2024, and hopes that many others will join him in the WorldSkills Volunteer adventure: “It’s a great experience. You give a lot of yourself, but you gain a lot in return. Once you start, you’re hooked. Give it a try, you’ll see!”
