WorldSkills Lyon 2024 Competition Preparation Week (CPW) concluded last week in Lyon

Competition Preparation Week (CPW) took place from 28 January to 2 February in Lyon. As the new year started, preparations for WorldSkills Lyon 2024 continued in full force with this major event that brought together more than 750 participants including key stakeholders, Skill Management Teams, Global Partners, Event Sponsors, the Competition Organizer, and WorldSkills International. Major events took place, giving the WorldSkills community the opportunity to progress significantly in the preparation of the 47th WorldSkills Competition.

The objectives of CPW included informing Members about the advancements of preparations and the exploration of methods to increase the efficiency of skills competitions, and to ensure their sustainability. Meetings for the 62 skills competitions took place to advance in the organization of issues such as logistics, infrastructure list, layout of workshops, as well as safety, environment, and health requirements. “At CPW, Members have the opportunity to gather information and make sure their teams are as prepared as they can be,” stated Jane Stokie, WorldSkills Director of Skills Competitions.

Several key events happened during the week, including a press conference held alongside the Métropole and the city of Lyon with Grégory Doucet, Mayor of Lyon, and Hélène Duvivier-Dromain, Vice-President of the Lyon Métropole, who both gave their full support to the Competition. Other events included the launch of the One School One Country programme, which will give local schools and international Competitors the opportunity to participate together in a cultural exchange; as well as the Sponsors Forum, an opportunity to brief industry partners on different aspects of the Competition. A series of crucial meetings and events between stakeholders and the WorldSkills community also took place. Among the CPW participants were four WorldSkills Champions Trust representatives: Yousra Assali, Sonya Hill, Dan McCabe, and Cloé Lemaréchal, who actively participated in the different events happening, in order to share their valuable experience at WorldSkills as well as their insights.

After this intense week filled with focused efforts and notable advancements in solidifying the logistics and infrastructure components of the Competition, all teams emerged with a strong sense of assurance in their ability to deliver an outstanding 47th WorldSkills Competition. WorldSkills Lyon 2024 is now more than ever on its way to cultivate excellence, inspire innovation on a global stage, and show that Where there is a skill, there is a way.
