WorldSkills Lyon 2024: a third day of Competition under the banner of inclusion

13 September 2024

On the third day of Competition, the Competitors carried on with their Test Projects in an effervescent atmosphere. With thousands of visitors filling the halls of Eurexpo, WorldSkills Lyon 2024 placed the day under the sign of a theme that is dear to the WorldSkills movement: equality, inclusion, and the need to break down stereotypes surrounding skilled careers.

Over the years, the WorldSkills movement has made significant strides in promoting gender equality and inclusion, asserting that young women and men should have equal opportunities in both their personal and professional lives. This message resonates across industries worldwide, showing that skills and abilities are not defined by gender but by one’s capacity to excel. At every Competition and this year at WorldSkills Lyon 2024, young women in skills are breaking stereotypes and showing the world that excellence in skills is not determined by gender, inspiring younger women to consider and pursue a career in skills. Among the movement, many women have set standards and become role models. Today, visitors had the opportunity to watch some of them first-hand as they demonstrated their talents in skills that are often associated with men.

This strive for inclusion is also reflected in the concrete measures taken by the Organizing Committee to enhance accessibility for all at the Competition. WorldSkills Lyon 2024 has for instance implemented several initiatives to ensure that persons with disabilities or reduced mobility can fully enjoy the event. A dedicated mobile application, offering specific features such as adapted routes, has been developed to improve the experience for these visitors. Additionally, visitors in need can come and see our dedicated teams at a special welcome desk where they can be guided and provided with all the necessary information to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience. These initiatives demonstrate WorldSkills’ commitment to promoting equal opportunities in skilled careers and beyond, laying the foundation for lasting inclusion in all societies around the world.

After another day of intense Competition, the Competitors and their teams were met with enthusiastic cheers, now gearing up for the final day tomorrow—a last push in their pursuit of the Gold Medal and the title of World Champion in their skill.
