Happy World Youth Skills Day!

15 July 2024

Since its inception 10 years ago, July 15 has marked the celebration of World Youth Skills Day. Proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly, this day highlights the importance of equipping young people with the essential skills needed for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship. To mark this day, WorldSkills Lyon 2024 is launching the first episode of the One School One Country mini-series, dedicated to the WorldSkills cultural exchange programme.

World Youth Skills Day raises global awareness of the challenges faced by young people in the job market and the importance of skills development for their professional future. The theme for 2024, “Youth Skills for Peace and Development”, aims to highlight the role of young people in peacebuilding and conflict resolution. Aligned with the core values of World Youth Skills Day, the WorldSkills Lyon 2024 Organizing Committee promotes excellence, innovation and inclusion for the development of skills for young people worldwide.

This day is particularly important to us as it contributes to raising the profile of our mission: to help young people acquire not only high-level vocational skills, but also essential intercultural skills in an ever-changing world where international exchanges are facilitated. Through the WorldSkills Competition, and global initiatives such as World Youth Skills Day, young people around the world are supported and encouraged to develop and demonstrate their wide range of skills. WorldSkills Lyon 2024 is lucky to be accompanied by valuable Partners and Sponsors who support us in this mission, such as Autodesk, a global leader in software for designers, engineers, builders, and creators:

“As the world’s leading Design and Make technology company, we believe we have an obligation to help the next generation of leaders – who will be charged with shaping our world – prepare for rapidly evolving jobs of the future. That’s why Autodesk is proud to partner with WorldSkills in developing tomorrow’s Design and Make leaders.”

Mary Hope McQuiston, Vice President of Education Experiences, Autodesk

The Organizing Committee is delighted to celebrate this day and, on this occasion, to launch the One School One Country (OSOC) mini-series. This WorldSkills cultural twinning programme promotes exchanges between schools in the host city of the Competition and the Competitors. OSOC enables young students to discover the skills represented at the Competition, while building strong intercultural bonds. Discover the mini-series here.
