Meet the WorldSkills Champions Trust representatives for 2023 to 2024: Rachel Crawford

Rachel Crawford, an Australian Champion who competed in Bakery at the WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition, has been a Champions Trust representative since her election in March 2023. The Champion tells us more about her new role and her history at WorldSkills.

Why did you apply to become a WorldSkills Champions Trust representative? How did it feel to be elected?

I applied because I wanted to be a part of a movement that motivates the youth to follow their passion, learn new skills and push out of their comfort zone. When I got the email that said that I was accepted, it was one of the happiest days of my life, I could not believe it.

What does the WorldSkills movement mean to you?

To me, the WorldSkills platform motivates the youth and encourages them to chase opportunities, open their own doors, follow their dreams and their passions. This message is really important and close to my heart.

“Always find ways to be bigger, better. Explore your passion, indulge in your skill, and always learn because skills are valuable.”

What is your avice to current Competitors and how do you wish to inspire them as a WorldSkills Champions Trust representative?

Don’t let the fear consume you and don’t be limited by the opportunities, create your own opportunities. Always find ways to be bigger, better. Explore your passion, indulge in your skill, always learn because skills are valuable.

What would you say to a young person hesitating to enter a skill-based education and training path?

If it’s what you truly love to do, that’s all you need. If you have always dreamt of doing it, do it. Take the leap of faith. It might seem scary in the beginning but it’s worth all the challenges you could come across. At the end of the day, when you do what you love, you never work a day in your life.

Do you have a favorite WorldSkills memory, an anecdote to share?

My favorite WorldSkills memory was the last day of Competition. After the bell rang and we were all finished, we were all exhausted and feeling a rush of emotions, but seeing the pride in everyone’s face was the most incredible feeling. Right there, we were all winners. It didn’t matter what happened after that. We were all here for the same reason, and it was just a beautiful moment.
