Meet the WorldSkills Champions Trust representatives for 2023 to 2024: Melkon Hovhannisyan

Melkon Hovhannisyan is an Armenian Champion from Yerevan. He competed in Web Technologies at the WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition. The Champions Trust representative is passionate about crafting innovative web experiences that connect people, enhance businesses and shape the future of online interactions. He answered our questions.

Why did you apply to become a WorldSkills Champions Trust representative? How did it feel to be elected?

I applied because I deeply believe in the power of vocational education and training, and the positive impact it has on young professionals worldwide. Having experienced the transformative journey of participating in a WorldSkills Competition, I wanted to give back to the movement that shaped my career and personal growth.

How would you describe the WorldSkills movement in three words?

In three words, the WorldSkills movement to me is: skill-driven, energizing and all-embracing!

What is your advice to current Competitors and how do you wish to inspire them as a WSCT representative?

Do the best you can! Embrace learning, persevere through challenges, network with peers, share your journey and give back to the community. As a WSCT representative, I aim to inspire Competitors by leading by example, fostering a supportive community, and advocating for vocational education and skills excellence.

“I deeply believe in the power of vocational education and training, and the positive impact it has on young professionals worldwide.”

What would you say to a young person hesitating to enter a skill-based education and training path?

Do you have a skill you enjoy? Is it your passion? If yes, then just go for it! Learn more about it, get into excellence, and challenge yourself to do it better than anyone else. You will then enjoy your whole life being in a dream! There is a good quote from Confucius that says: “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

Do you have a favorite WorldSkills memory, an anecdote to share?

One of my favorite memories is the evening of the last day of the Competition during the 2022 Special Edition, when we had just finished the last task. At that moment, starting to think about the experience, we, the Competitors seemed so close to each other. We had met only a few days prior but we had been through so many challenges and so much pressure together!
